Watch more top selected videos about: Bruce SpringsteenLong before the invitation hymn that we will sing at the close of worship this morning was called a “spiritual,” it was a slave song: “Mary, Don’t You Weep, Don’t You Mourn. ” It was a song of resistance and hope authored anonymously and sung religiously by persons whose bodies were owned and exploited by others, but whose spirits kept their eyes on the prize of freedom, and whose souls were never enslaved. You know Mary and Martha from another story, a story that the gospel of John doesn’t tell but the gospel of Luke does. In that story, Martha expresses frustration over the fact that while she is busy with the work of the household, Mary is sitting at Jesus’ feet reveling in his teachings instead of helping Martha. Martha says, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me. Be sure to check that out on Friday evening! Steve said he was tired of the blue and white display on the kitchen shelves and believe me I try to keep the head chef happy. I love yellow and thought it would be a nice accent color in the kitchen. With the plates stacked on top of each other, the pattern didn't show at all so I used a letter holder to balance the plates. Yellow trimmed cups hanging from the letter holder add a touch of whimsy. I raided the cupboards for any more yellow pieces, kept a little bit of blue and white on the shelves I love the cheerfulness of yellow so I perked up the dining room with yellow flatware and roses. And now, I'm off to the garden to find some yellow flowers for the living room. We people with diabetes have just entered the six week period during which managing what we eat can morph from a daily challenge to an ongoing nightmare, culminating, all too often, in diet disaster. As anyone who has read my books or web site knows, I'm not a fan of rigid regimentation or obsessive self-denial. I believe very strongly that the key to crafting an effective diabetes diet that you can stick to for decades, not months, is to respect yourself and your emotional needs, build in safety valves, and provide enough variety to avoid burn-out. But over the past decades the holidays have morphed into a celebration of gluttony, not just of food, but of every kind of consumer good. And those of us who don't believe that the best way to show our love for the people around us is to shower them with gifts and stuff them with sugary, fatty food are labeled "Scrooges" or accused of promoting economic slowdown that will rob our neighbors of jobs. Unless you are an independently wealthy, only child orphan who lives in a cave in the wilds of Montana, the chances are you will find yourselves continually assaulted by the messages: Buy More! Spend More! Eat more! So the weeks ahead are a minefield. Because food isn't just food. Food is memories. Food is love. Food is what keeps us safe when things get scary. The theft took place in June. The owner of the tools reported they were located in a bin at a Key Largo work site and included a Makita electric drill, Makita electric hammer drill and a Makita handheld grinder. Pawn shop records showed the man who pawned them was the same ex-employee who’d been seen near the tools before they were stolen. Yes, only shamefully "ungrateful" Mundanes object when police kill the innocent without accountability. Joshua Jenkins killed thirty-three-year-old Jennifer Chauvin by slamming his vehicle into her sedan at an intersection near AuSable, New York.
According to police investigators, Jenkins failed to yield the right-of-way to Chauvin at an intersection.Chauvin’s children, six-year-old Caleb and three-year-old Riley, had to be extracted from the backseat using the Jaws of Life, but they survived. Her killer is still on the payroll. Jenkins was entirely at fault for the fatal crash. His punishment for killing a mother of two who had just put herself through college was a ticket for running a stop sign. Under the careful guidance of a strangely solicitous prosecutor, a Clinton County, New York grand jury declined to indict Jenkins, who – as anyone burdened with even a modest awareness of current affairs should have guessed by now – is a police officer. He was not responding to an emergency or pursuing a suspect, which means that he cannot invoke exigent circumstances to justify a fatal accident that resulted from his own culpable inattention. The "hope and change" crowd of fawning Obamaniacs won't notice. They are too concerned with when their government check will arrive with their share of the trillion dollar bailout. He simply won't do anything. Israel faces a real and escalating threat to their very existence. If you live there it would be hard to be anything else. With an electoral mandate, you could reasonably anticipate that the IDF is going to have to do something about the mad-man in Teheran. It might be neat and surgical or it might be big and rough. But something will follow from the election and Obama would do well to start getting some serious briefings on his options. Hillary, are you listening?. I was in Seattle recently as everyone knows. Monsieur snores. This shop in the Galerie Vivienne, in Paris, features three things I love: globes, maps, and musty old books. And also to Our World Tuesday. That's the conclusion of a recent study: The US government does not represent the interests of the majority of the country's citizens, but is instead ruled by those of the rich and powerful, a new study from Princeton and Northwestern Universities has concluded. Moreover, because of the strong status quo bias built into the US political system, even when fairly large majorities of Americans favour policy change, they generally do not get it. " There's more at The Telegraph. And see my previous post on this subject. It reveals the plutocracy that benefits and examines what needs to be done to bring back a true democracy. The other day, my youngest daughter, a junior in high school, told me that, though her Physics class was very difficult for her, she was really enjoying it because it was genuinely challenging. She added that there have been other classes that were "hard", but they didn't challenge her the way this class does. I've experienced that type of challenge today in prepping the materials for this post. It started when I decided that, rather than take step-by-step process shots of the making of this block, I would make an Instagram video instead. I've made those before and they're fun and cute and that's about it. Also, if you're not my friend or follower or whatever on Instagram, you probably wouldn't know the video was there. via. The old kitchen window was single paned and just above my sink. It had begun to rot and I couldn't even close it tightly anymore. It still had a bit of use left in it though so in it went. I had to think of something to do with the two areas of un-aged raw plywood. So Jenny and I left Redmond, and Emily was alone for just over a day. When she didn't answer her phone yesterday afternoon, I freaked out amid vivid visions of seizures, kidnappers, and worse. Paul told me it was ok that I did so, after all, I am the mom. But we note that he, the dad, stayed calm. Of course it turned out that Emily had taken a nap and the phone was in the living room on "vibrate. "But then later in the evening it was Emily's turn to freak out. Happy Sunday! It's Kary here to share the Awesome new Stamp Of The Week - Ordinary Life for this week. As per usual, this girl had to write down some goals for the new year. I'm a list-maker, remember? I decided to not really call them resolutions because I feel like you're asking to fail. There's a negative connotation associated with that word. Instead, I'm calling them goals. I'm not going to share all my goals for the new year, but here are some of them. People are always making goals about working out in January. Again. Approximately one-third of a Friedman Unit ago, Mr. David Brooks of the New York Times suddenly discovered that he did not know a damn thing about America. This turned out to be kind of embarrassing given that Mr. David Brooks' entire fortune and life of gilded privileged are based entirely on making grand, gassy generalizations about America for our nation's Newspaper of Record, acting as the in-house tribal grio for a small clutch of very rich, very powerful deluded old plutocrats who desperately want to believe that America was some other kind of country and that their Republican party was being run by some other kind of people. For years, Mr. Of course, many on the Left have spent many, many years regularly pointing out what the rise of Donald Trump has finally forced Mr. I came across this chopped panhead watercolor online looking nice and psychedelic and would have to say its a pretty cool painting. I am, like, so totally relieved it's Sunday, because I haven't felt so messed up since. By the way, Peter, you still need to return my outfit. Please have it cleaned first. Alrighty, moving along. Artillery shell that size, I'm surprised it wasn't vaporized in the resulting crater. You'd think it was the first rather than his sixth start for Be Bullish, as greenly as he raced. Then, from dead last, he bore out turning for home and went about a million wide, and not only rallied to win, but did so going away. Unreal.
